The national dish of Brazil is said to be the Feijoada, a bean stew made with beef, pork and rice. Traditionally cooked in a clay pot for several hours, Feijoada is often eaten for weekend lunches.
Moqueca is a seafood stew made from fish and shellfish, which is popular around the coastal areas of Brazil.
Brazilian snack items include: Pão de queijo, cheese bread rolls, Coxinha, deep fried drumsticks filled with minced chicken, and Pastel, pastry parcels stuffed with ingredients such as meat, cheese and Palm hearts.
Many Brazilian puddings contain fruits from the fertile land around the country. Coconut, passion fruit, papaya, guava, cashew fruit and acai berries are popular favourites.
